RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE FARMING

The name Urbangro, originated from our business strategy, to grow fresh organic produce in the urban fabric.

Our family owned business started with its first urban greenhouse, in Chartwell, Gauteng (dubbed the “Gro-Lab”). Here we grow, through sustainable methods, fresh organic vegetables all year round with help from our Rainbow Trout (Salmonidae Oncorhynchus Mykiss )in our Aquaponic and Hydroponic tunnels, under strict quality control.

Our produce is available directly from the Gro Lab if in the neighbourhood or through your local fresh produce stores and restaurants within a 50km radius of the greenhouse who support sustainable, ethically grown healthy food sources.

Our Fresh Produce

What is it all about? Our fresh produces is grown in a controlled environment greenhouse facility. Here we assure the best quality organic fresh produce, without the use of harmful pesticides, chemicals and fertilizers while using minimal amounts of water using Hydroponics and Aquaponics systems that we have developed.

What is the difference? Hydroponics is the overall practice of growing plants without soil, while Aquaponics is a subset of hydroponics where you grow plants in water and raise fish for nutrients.

Our Trout

Our trout are hatched at the Katrinasrust Trout Farm, one of the oldest commercial trout hatcheries in the country, where they produce the best quality fish in the most pristine conditions. and carefully transported to our facility and lovingly cared for in our clean water recirculating system.
